Policy Statement 
The U.S. Department of Education mandates schools use the verification process to check the accuracy and completeness of data provided on the selected applicant’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The verification process is meant to ensure that federal student financial aid is disbursed equitably and according to federal law and program regulation. The U.S. Department of Education or the school selects applications for verification.

Definitions 
Verification is a process completed by the financial aid office when a student’s FAFSA data has been selected by the U.S. Department of Education due to quality control measures or conflicting data that did not pass established edit or database checks.
