Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that Capstone College of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Faculty collect and incorporate student opinions into evaluations of faculty clinical teaching effectiveness.

Policy

The Capstone College of Nursing BSN Faculty will seek student opinions of clinical faculty effectiveness and student clinical performance each semester to facilitate and document professional growth and performance in the area of clinical teaching. The information shall be obtained from the following survey, “Student Opinion of Clinical Faculty and Student Clinical Performance Effectiveness” for undergraduate students.

Assumptions

  • All BSN faculty will use the information obtained from students to facilitate and document professional growth and performance in clinical teaching.
  • Individual faculty will review student comments, analyze, and submit composite data for review by the Faculty Life Committee and/or the Dean or Dean designee.
  • Where appropriate, information obtained will be used to improve clinical teaching in relevant courses.

Survey Implementation

  1. The survey must be provided in the appropriate course to each student before the end of the semester.
  2. Each BSN student must have the opportunity to submit their completed electronic survey before the end of the semester. The survey will be distributed no later than 14 days after clinical and will remain open for 14 days. Students shall be assured that all information gathered from this survey will remain anonymous and will not be reviewed until grades have been finalized.
  3. Each BSN faculty member must review the survey results for developmental purposes and submit a summary data analysis to the Course Leader at the end of each semester.
  4. Each BSN faculty member must also submit a summary data analysis to the Dean/Dean designee at the end of each academic year.
  5. Each BSN faculty member must submit the summary data analysis for all semesters taught as part of their dossier to be reviewed by the Faculty Life Committee and/or the Dean or Dean Designee.

Scope

This policy applies to all BSN clinical faculty.
